Hear Mr Nice Guy - LIVE!
February 12th 2009 21:32
Well folks . . . as embarrassing as it may be - you will now be able to hear me 'live' via the wonders of the 'net' every Tuesday night between 7 and 10 courtesy my three hour gig on 89.9FM.
OK - on the surface it's an unabashed grab for a few more listeners - but in reality (having tussled with the thought of exposing myself - in the nicest possible way to my Orbling colleagues) thought a few of you might actually enjoy the music.
Of course I've been dragging my heels on my own website (click here - yes folks this is me - sorry to disappoint) for a while but it's up and running if only partially for now.
That said - you can go to the 89.9FM website (click here - yes it's community radio) and go to the webcam link and listen in.
Sure, it's taken a few months of nagging to have the station's IT guy to nut this out - but in today's climate it's important for even a community station to have an increased scope and presence.
So - if you're into a little 70's power pop, one hit wonders, 80's rock and a little of the new stuff - why not tune in via the web.
What's more - you can even send a net note or message of undying love and support to yours truly via the station's guestbook facility - telling the board just how much you truly love the music guy on Tuesday nights between 7 and 10 . . . that should see me clear to keeping the gig.
You can all send me a list of a few of your favourites songs too if you like - and I'll see what I can do - will definitely give those who do a cheerio as well.
Hope you can join me - www.hawkradio.org.au - remember Tuesday nights - 7 til 10 - oh what have I just done . . . !

Set your bar low - and perhaps the sound even lower - unless of course you're into 70's and 80's classics - then clammer for the disco ball and platforms . . .
I'll send out a cheerio for sure.
Any songs you'd like to hear?

It's going great . . . well I'm having a great time at least - and it keeps me sane as far as an escape from the day to day politics of the office.
Send me through a playlist of a few songs and I'll see what I can do if you like.
Cheers

Yep - well of sorts anyway. It's more a hobby - which makes it fun. My audience (more likely those who stumble on the station) - tend to hang around for the music and fortunately have a tendency to come back each week . . . good for the morale.
Would love you to leave a net note via the station and will send out a cherio if you want to shoot through a song or two and where abouts you're listening from via the 'net'.
Stay well

Ditto. Send through a song or two from the 70s 80s or something new and I'll make a point of saying g'day.
Thanks for your support.

Very happy to see they finally put it online.
Now I just need to figure out the "Guy location Australia" to Tulsa, Oklahoma time conversion.
I believe it is add 5 hours to my time, then switch ahead from am to pm or vice versa.
So Tuesdays at 7PM in Sydney would be minus 5 hours (2PM)...then switch to AM...I am thinking your show is Tuesday mornings at 2AM-5AM. That actually fits right into my normal sleep pattern on most days. lol
Best of luck with the show!

Best you simply tune in and enjoy the music - Howard Stern or Caey Casem - I'm not - but like I say - it's fun.
Any songs I can play for you?

Now if only I could think of something appropriate to play for you . . . perhaps Bob Seger's Night Moves.

No pressure - huh?
Comic relief on a Tuesday night . . .
I'll make a point of playing something for you and sending you a big hello.

Rock N Roll All Nite might be more appropriate.

I know you're a bit of a KISS man - so I'll make a point of including them tomorrow night. Might even do a little Eagles for you to boot . . .

You can probably judge by the website (which is a job in progress) that it's more about the music and less about the person behind the microphone (as it should be). Afterall - I don't think I offer too many memories to listeners (well perhaps a few) whereas the music affords so much.
Any requests?

...um... gosh I think I will pass out from the mental ruush a questin like that can cause at my age *lol* but lets start with the first thing that popped into my head: The Joker (was it by Steve Miller or have I flipped out completely?).

Consider it done.
Tune in between 7.30 and 8 and I'll get it on.

As for requests, well, my musical education is a continual progress...i'll recognise songs without knowing what they are. That's why i love the "playing now" feature on radio station websites. I miss the days when the announcers actually followed up the song with "And that was [insert song title] by [insert artist name]".....

I'm a DJ myself and started in radio with a funked up party show called Heavy Traffick in Wellington, NZ, on a station called RadioActive89FM. Me and a couple of mates would drop all the 70s and early 80s funk, soul and disco bombs. Great messy blunted fun to be had. Ran for nearly three years from 1994 til the end of 1996. I'll aim to catch your show if I can remember, although it clashes with Lead Balloon on the telly.
