Not my regular type post, so apologies in advance - but can someone tell me if this is a case of scare mongering?
Does anyone know the facts?
Is it produced by the Catholic Church?
Or US Government propaganda?
Or is it all true?

Seriously, though this is one example of how putting any figures in front of people can make something so ridiculous seem so real. I'd love to know where the info came from.
Good find.

firstly, i think we need to acknowledge religion is not hereditary, it is not stamped into the DNA, it is a culture and traditions that are passed down through families and through society, and it takes a village to raise a child . . . with immigrants there is usually a watering down effect of how religious 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants are, they may become less orthodox, adhere only nominally, or just where weddings, births and deaths occur, or they may convert to a different religion, or the more educated they become the more they may reject religion and the concept of god altogether
secondly, many of the countries that these Muslim people are leaving (some of them refugees fleeing war zones) have high infant mortality, limited healthcare, limited immunisations, high poverty, shorter life-spans etc so the culture of having 8 or 10 or 12 children is a direct response to knowing the chances of any one of them surviving is not that high, they have quite alot in the hope a few survive, they carry on the family genes and there is someone to care for them when theyre older . . . look at 2nd and 3rd generation Muslim women in Australia, there is less uncertainty and risk in their lives so their family sizes are just the same as mine and yours, the women go to university and join the workforce because they have the opportunity
thirdly, one of the benefits of not living in a theocracy or a dictatorship is that we value womens rights, reproductive rights, and womens health, we have the facilities available for women to make choices about if and when they marry and have children . . . and women immigrating here, or being born with immigrant parents, will have access to condoms and other forms or contraception that may not have been available to them in their former home country
forthly, taking an immigration period over the last 10 years and extrapolating it to all eternity is just ridiculous, immigrants (the refugee portion) usually come from places of civil unrest or war (so usually wherever we are bombing or taking economic advantage of), it is only recently that we are seeing so many from Africa and The Middle East, in other eras it was the Vietnamese, Koreans, Cambodians, South Americans . . . they didnt "out-breed us" did they?
i think it is irrational to take a birthrate from one place and assume it will translate several generations down the track after the families are transplanted to a Western country, where all the circumstances are completely different, it assumes so much, assuming the birth-rate and immigration rate will remain constant, assuming there will be no inter-faith or inter-racial marriages in the future, assuming with improved health, wealth, and education that customs cant (or wont) change, assuming that women wont choose what is best for them once they are given every opportunity in the world
sorry, that was so long, i just had alot to say
