New words to our vocabulary . . .
July 19th 2010 01:19
If you'd left this mortal coil 20 years ago and started up a conversation with someone today - chances are you'd be scratching your skull wondering what on earth some of the 'new-speak' was.
From ipad's and ipod's to email and dot com.
Why even terms such as plasma, when referring to televisions and not blood transfusions have taken on a whole different persona.
Pop culture remains a vibrant source of new words, with such additions as "dead presidents" (paper currency), "McJob" (low paying or dead-end work) and "Frankenfood" (genetically engineered food) to the general 'vocab'.
Then there's terms such as muffin top, economic or green footprint not to mention all the short forms we use when txting - OMG!
So what are the words and phrases which would have the castaways on Gilligans Island believing they'd inadvertantly stumbled onto a civilisation speaking an entirely new dialect?

Chilax rates up their with gy-normous in my books - so we'll add it to the list.
Hope you're well and that you're not consuming too much of the aforementioned - summer's just around the corner.

What do you suppose someone 2 decades ago would have made of the word 'Blog"?
