Celebrity Sinners
August 25th 2010 01:57
With the news this week of our very own Matthew Newton re-admitting himself into rehab for a multitude of sins, it brought to light just how many misguided and maligned celebrities we have on the books - both here and around the world.
Topping the list of recent times would have to be Tiger Woods - who plainly believed he was above not only the law but any sense of common decency with a morality act even Caligula would be proud of.
Then of course we have the Paris Hilton's, Amy Winehouses and Lindsay Lohan's of the world - who are simply trainwrecks looking for another siding to crash headfirst into.
Of course none of this is new - with scandal and innuendo stretching back to way back when, the difference being that love em' or hate em' the paparazzi have become a well oiled machine when it comes to sniffing out celebrity indescretions.
So why is it that celebrity's seem to feel they are above the rest of us when it comes to either the law or simply obnoxious behaviour?
Or are they in fact (in the main) no different in their actions to the greater populus?

But, because they are indeed scrutinized more than the average person, and that they have chosen to become public personalities, they need to be even more discreet and "proper" in that sense. After all, throughout history, the popular cultural attitudes expressed by those in power are the ones that the societies adopt.
When the celebs have indiscretions, it makes headlines, mainly because, as the National Enquirer told us: "Enquiring minds want to know".
My current hit list includes one of my former favorites Mel Gibson. Those phone calls, man. Bad. Completely changes my opinion of him. Especially since he challenged the world with the Passion.
