Cops Are Tops: Who's Your Favourite TV Crime Fighter?
January 2nd 2008 20:50
With the conglomerate of police TV drama on the airwaves these days - thought it timely to take a bit of straw poll on who exactly is everyone's favourite cop.
As a kid, I used to love watching the ever so dapper Robert Taylor and his equally well healed detectives with my dad.
But as the years (and crims) became more colourful - I found myself often torn between programs - with local drama's such as Homocide, Division 4 taking centre stage.
But it was the 70's and 80's where the current breed of supercop really earnt their stripes.
Starsky and Hutch, Mod Squad, Shaft, Miama Vice, Hill St Blues - even CHiPs with the dynamic motorcycle riding duo of Ponch and Jon - all had their legion of fans.
Today it's CSI New York, LA, Marrickville, Hooterville, The Bill, Cold Case et al - and while the names have changed - it appears (with the television audience at least) that Cops are Still Tops!
So - who has been (is currently) your favourite crime fighting cop or private dick?

I also liked Life on Mars. It was pretty wierd but strangely entertaining when zonked after a hard day.

You're quite the fan.
Nice selections.
I'm a bit of a Gibbs fan myself - though I hear Denoso has quite a following as well.

Magnum PI
The guy from "Life" (it's a new show)
The Shield is by far my favorite cop show, but I hesitate to say Vic is a favorite, because he's a bad guy. But he is a well-written and interesting character. So, Vic.
Sherlock Holmes
Dirty Harry

I used to watch Magnum and Chips and I've been a Bill fan for umpteen years. I don't watch it so much now that it's become more like a soapie than a cop show.

Jim Rockford is holding steady at second place, while I just don't feel the love of Kojak as a crime fighter. I do like his one liners tho...

Flick Wit
Daniel McPherson in The Bill and City Homocide but that doesn't have much to do with the shows.
I loved Tempe Brennan in the books but haven't seen much of Bones - plus she just thinks she's a cop.

Loved The Shield too. Though it's life on TV here in Sydney was cut way too short.
Will keep an eye out for "Life" though.
Thanks for stopping by.

Gary Sweet certainly is a survivor - but he does do it well.
As for Dan the Man . . . . best we stick to the topic huh?

As eclectic as ever with your choices my friend.
Roger Moore probably falls into the same category as The Champions or The Persuaders or even Burke's Law.
Ahhh - let's throw em all into the mix.
Will touch base soon.

He was great in Three Men and A Baby too.
Got to spend about half an hour with him while on holidays - very down to earth (back then at least).
