Rapture: The Blondie Reunion Tour?
May 23rd 2011 01:21
OK - so warnings by a Christian doomsday prophet that the world would end on Saturday sent some people into hiding and others into deep depression - personally I thought it was one big PR exercise for a Blondie Reunion Tour.
But alas it looks like I was wrong.
Yet in spite of American televangelist predicting the so-called global "Rapture" complete with earthquakes and the good being taken into heaven - my faith in a Debra Harry and Blondie World Reunion tour remains as steadfast as ever.
Yes, the punk icon with with her two-tone bleached-blonde hair and cool sexuality and streetwise style is probably well past her prime - but hey at 66 - she's no different than the multitude of baby boomer artists cashing in that sense of nostalgia which not only beckons 70s pop culture disciples but still manages a certain "kerching" factor.
Best known for her global hits Heart of Glass and One Way or Another, Blondie (with Debra Harry as their front 'man') also scored big time iwth Atomic, The Tide is High, Call Me and of course "Rapture".
In 2009, Blondie combined with Pat Benatar for the "Call Me Invincible" tour. and last year hit the UK circuit with an album still to be released from it.
So it was with a degree of trepidation yet just a hint of optimism that I thought perhaps Harold Camping was a fan and that the group had pulled off a major promotion coup.
I guess when it comes to Harold he's gone back up to space
Where he won't have a hassle with the human race
And you hip-hop, and you don't stop
Just blast off, sure shot
'Cause the man from Mars stopped eatin' cars and eatin' bars
And now he only eats guitars, get up!
But alas it looks like I was wrong.
