:-O or OMG - diary of a novice txt-er
October 31st 2011 01:32
Text messaging is fraught with pitfalls that can make otherwise sensible and largely intelligent people look like imbeciles.
I've never been one to pick up languages readily - but 'back in the day' that usually meant French, German or Italian, today though the science of sending either emoticons or simply trying to read text 'shortforms' is almost 2M2H.
4COL - doesn't anyone under the age of 25 realise that old folks (those of us who still remember when a phone was used primarily to speak with one another) that when someone texts BOSMKL - that frankly I might just as well be reading Russian.
DILLIGAF?
DKDC - but if you've lost interest already in my rant - then I fell consoled that I'm not alone in my inability to come to terms with the texting sub-culture.
Afterall - when the word GIRL in txt speak actually means Guy In Real Life - what chance do any of us have in understanding what all this means.
Then of course there's those little smiley's and emoticons
Now my knowledge of these is just about as limited. Sure I can add shades to 8-) or even one that's winking
but apparently you can send everything from a love heart to a shark (why anyone would need to send a shark kinda defies my reasoning) - but hey.
So there you have it. A novice in the extreme - but open to learning.
Oh - and BTW - if you're wondering what the . . . all those damned abbreviations mean - perhaps check out the link.
Guess I'll CUL8R
