Calling All Trekkies!
April 24th 2009 00:43
"Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations — to boldly go where no man has gone before."
This is where it all began. The Original Star Trek Series running roughly from 1966 through 1969, for a total of three seasons and 78 episodes - but my how we've grown.
The show was only a minor hit and was threatened with cancellation after its second year, but a strong letter-writing campaign from fans convinced the network to keep the show.
But with even less spectacular ratings Star Trek was terminated with little hope of any future.
Or so they thought!
Fortunately, after three years enough episodes were produced that the show could enter syndication, and it was in the after-school market during the early 1970's that the show found its audience.
Fan conventions sprang up, merchandising blossomed, an animated series with the original cast was produced, and it became apparent that Star Trek was a force that would refuse to die.
Today, the franchise first conceived by Gene Roddenberry over 40 years ago has spawned four more television series, 10 theatrical movies, hundreds of books and magazines, and innumerable Internet fan sites.
So - open the pandora's box . . . who is your favourite Star Trek character?

I kid, my favourite would be Data (or Seven of Nine from Voyager... mmm Jeri Ryan)
He's like a big kid. He's great.

there is an semi-regular omnipotent character in Voyager and The Next generation called Q who i quite like, a humanoid with god-like abilities, a very interesting concept
i also like Seven of Nine the half-Borg character in Voyager
and i like Data and Deanna Troi in The Next Generation

Have to admit - I've never heard Jean-Luc Picard quite described in that fashion.
It's all a little alien really.
Cheers

It's hard for followers of many original TV series to be taken by the new breed of characters - but apparently Trekkies are an exception.
I'm still a devotee of James T Kirk's crew I have to admit.

I voted for Mr. Spock, as I always thought that his ears is cool enough.

You know the greatest Star Trek character of all time has to be myself in the guise of Kirk on the bridge of the Enterprise
Seriously though , Data and Q from Next Gen rank highly and the Trill Lt. Commander Jadzia Dax in DS9 also titillates.

Absolutely Kirk. and Q.
Then Sisko, who has really taken me by storm lately as I am making my way through DS9. I love his way of doing things (even his alter ego in the alternate reality), where I found I liked Bashir there too as a pirate, rather than an uptight doctor).
Always adored Quark and his brother, Rom. But particularly Quark, he just cracks me up. He is so mercinary, yet noble too. I love the Negas when he pops in too, so funny!
Really like the characters of Garak and Gul Dukat (from the Cardasians) and I love Keira*s firey nature.
I thought Dianna*s Mum and how she*d chase anything that moved in all of them (even odo!) *lol* She was pretty groovy and I really liked her manservant. He loved a bevvy didn*t he?
Only Data and Guynan really in Next Gen. Piccard annoyed me because everytime it got a little hairy, he would rub his forehead and start the auto destruct sequence. He was no doubts a Captain of great peace and vision, but I always felt he would have been happier in his vineyard sipping wine and reading classics.
Perhaps he was at his best when he did Generations with Kirk. I loved Roddy*s character, Zorin, in that one too.
I found Chakotay, Seven of Nine and the Doctor in Voyager fascinating characters and loved the way they all developed.
I Liked Ichep and Nelix too.
Ooh not a trekkie, but definitely a fan!
