Star Trek (the original) Trivia

May 28th 2009 06:44
Star Trek

I was a huge fan of the original Star Trek TV series.

I remember it as a kid - and albeit dated - it is iconic TV 60's pop culture.

Now I'm no trivia expert when it comes to the program - but there are a few bits and pieces you may find interesting - and I'm sure a whole lot more you could add which I'd be interested in finding out about.

James Doohan (Scotty) lost his right middle finger during World War II. Most of his scenes are shot to hide it.

Martin Landau was originally offered the role of Commander Spock, but declined.

Mission: Impossible was filmed on the same lot as Star Trek, therefore when "Star Trek" (1966) ended, Nimoy merely crossed the street to go to his new job when, strangely enough when Martin Landau left the series.

In 2000, the show was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as having the largest number of spin-off productions, including the feature film series and the numerous TV series.

Contrary to popular belief, Captain Kirk never said, "Beam me up, Scotty," in any episode.

Probably the same people who believe Bogart said "Play It Again Sam" - which of course never happened either.

Interesting how these things start isn't it?

I used to watch this series, half heartedly and I was never really that into it. I do remember it a lot though but could never honestly remember anything really particular about it.

Except. The guy who played Mr Spock had a lot of trouble getting work after the series. It was always a big joke that when he went for an audition eveyone would call him "Mr Spock" and he hated it.

This is SORT of Star Trek trivia-- What is the Leonard Nimoy movie where her played a boxer??? I've only seen it once and that was 30 years ago. I honestly don't have the answer and it's been driving me crazy for years!!!!

Perhaps he should've taken off the ears before going into the interview . . .

Stay well

I shudder to think about the trivia that lurks in your mind - I thank the Klingon gods that your connection is playing up.

I think the movie you're talking about is called "Kid Monk Baroni".

Cheers

I consider myself a pretty big fan of Star Trek old and new, but I have to admit, I didn't know any of those things (except for the last one). Thanks.

And you know - the last one is my favourite . . . baffles the masses everytime - who often dispute it as well.

Cheers

When I first heard about it, I started listening for it, and while Captain Kirk came close sometimes ("Mr. Scott, you may beam us up."), I can to a large extent confirm that it is true.

I just finished watching "Star Trek Tech" on the History Channel.

Included the actors as well as people who worked behind the scenes.

Very kool.

Will air again on DirecTV in Pacific time in two hours.
