Masking What?

December 3rd 2012 06:37
Masks, Zorro, Superman, Batman, Star Wars, Darth Vadar, Lone Ranger, 50s, 60s 70s
Do they hide their identity to protect themselves or are they just plain badass?

No matter what the reasons for wearing them, there's been plenty of iconic masked heroes who have won a place in our hearts and minds.

From the 'dynamic duo' through to the most legendary mask in theatre - the virtue and attraction of good, the bad and sometimes the ugly is clearly etched.

Whether Don Diego de la Vega (aka Zorro), Darth Vadar or The Lone Ranger makes your list of favourites is entirely a point of personal preference while more forboding, sinister characters such as Jason - who donned a hockey mask in Friday the 13th or Hannibal Lecter and his jail cell effort which physically restrained him from basically eating people’s faces - also probably make those with a penchant for the dark side's list.

But for the sake of discussion (and sanity) should we confine ourselves to the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Cat Woman and Spiderman or delve into the the troves of the fiendish who have made the mask their own?
