Your Teen Crush/Idol
October 21st 2008 23:59
Boys and girls differ on so many levels.
Other than the physical – one of the great disparities I came across (not only growing up but as a parent) is the world of the ‘teen idol’.
Now – perhaps I was simply too busy scraping knees, kicking footballs and wielding cricket bats to notice – but it seemed that every girl had some crush on some teen.
While my years defy me having any concept of Elvis or The Beatles let alone teen idols of the 50’s and earlier – I do have recollections of girls having almost rabid ‘crushes’ on David Cassidy, The Bay City Rollers and Leif Garrett.
In fact, even a Brady Bunch episode paid homage to the whole teen idol question – when Marcia moved heaven and earth to have Davy Jones (from the Monkees) come play at her High School Dance.
From the 90210 cast to Scott Baio, John Travolta to Andy Gibb – they all had their followings – I guess.
These days its apparently Zac Efron, Usher, N-sync and for the lads (yes apparently I’ve been out of step all this time) it’s Hillary Duff, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Clarkson.
So – did you have a teen crush and if so who was it?

MNG, the crushes don't stop in as we cruise into our 20s - we've always got a crush on someone.

It's when you see your grandmother with a pin-up of Errol Flynn on the inside of her wardrobe you really have to start to worry
BTW - how do these things take a hold?
Stay well

The way she came out of the water was much more appealing than the shark in Jaws.
She could have had teeth for all I cared back then.

Dreadlocks n' all.
Dudley Moore didn't know what was about to hit really did he?
The whole Bolero thing still resonates I bet.
PS: I concur with your self nomination on the awards front - I will second it

When I was 5, That is all my teenage aunts listened too .I started early (6-7 years old!) Later, it was Davy Jones. Boy, those were the days! Honestly, I still enjoy Peter Noonan as well as Davy Jones. The best last FOREVER!!!!

Peter Noonan was even a little before my time - but Davy Jones - with the oh-so British accent, mop top hair and pop star outlook was huge - I'll concur.
Can't work out why Peter Tork never quite made it though
Are you sure this isn't Marcia Brady?

I have a confession to make. I truly reverted back to being a little kid! When Herman's Hermits were so popular, My Aunt Sue told me Herman's real name. She always said Peter Noon AN The Hermits. As a little kid I thought she said Peter Noonan The Hermits. It was not until I was probably 12 that I found out his name was Peter Noone. When I wrote the post, I reverted, old habits are hard to break! (Sorry Peter!) I think you might enjoy a peek at Peter Noone's website. give it a try, who knows, even if it was before your time, you might enjoy it!
As is so often the case, modern society incorporates song of the past. Even an episode of the Simpsons had the Herman Hermits hit Henry the Eighth sung by the Simpson Kids.

Wasn't that the 'all new, singing, all dancing' Superman?
From memory - the all-American, good looks "I had a career in college football but . . . " actor.
Yep - I can probably understand that one - what with the whole undies on the outside thing
Cheers

That explains it. Nothing wrong with living life as a kid sometimes - even if it means bumping into a few foilbles as you reverse your mind into yesterday mode.
More power to you I say.
Stay well
