Brian Wilson - Tormented Genius
June 3rd 2011 23:45
The rock music world is littered with so-called pop 'legends'. Performers who are blessed with an indefinable and sometimes tortured brilliance.
Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys is one such artist.
Arguably the greatest American composer of popular music in the rock era he formed the Beach Boys in 1961 alongside his two younger brothers, cousin Mike Love, and school friend Alan Jardine.
Combining the frenetic energy of artists such as Chuck Berry with laid back west coast harmonies, Wilson experimented with new songwriting structures and production techniques throughout the 60s which resulted in classic contributions to the world such as Good Vibrations.
Wilson retreated from the world however in the late 60s - early 70s following a well documented period of drug addiction, mental illness, and general isolation - before releasing his first solo album in 1988.
So how does Brian Wilson figure he'll be remembered by history?
