10 Pieces of Weird Trivia . . .
July 31st 2008 22:41
Just when you thought it was safe to go back to your local trivia night (and not have to front that boring know it all) here's the solution!
Ten weird and wonderful pieces of absolutely useless triva sure to defy even the most ardent of brains trust geeks.
1. After the death of her husband, poet Percy Shelley, Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein) kept his heart wrapped up in silk until she died.
2. The shortest war in history was between Zanzibar and Great Britain in 1896. Zanzibar surrendered after 38 minutes.
3. An ostrich's eye is bigger than its' brain.
4. Gilligan of Gilligan's Island had a first name that was only used once, on the never-aired pilot show. His first name was Willy.
5. 101 Dalmatians and Peter Pan (Wendy) are the only two Disney cartoon features with both parents that are present and don't die throughout the movie.
6. A pig's orgasm lasts for 30 minutes.
7. The moon is moving away at a tiny, although measurable distance from the earth every year
8. The average life of a taste bud is 10 days.
9. One in every 1000 babies is born with a tooth.
10. Humans have 46 chromosomes, peas have 14 and crayfish have 200.
Enjoy your weekend!

Do I get anything for having known seven of the ten, while partially knowing an eighth?
Shelley always was an odd one.
This also explains the whole "Happier than a pig having an orgasm." saying...wait, that isn't what they say.
BTW you better hide #3 from Armenta. I remember readiing one of her old posts yesterday about the "apostrophe S", she won't be happy with the ostrich. HEr and my wife would get along rather well I think. She is a 4th grade teacher and often portrayed "The Grammar Police" at home. (She is actually the one that pointed to the "it's" while I was writing my comment.) On the brightside I have a live-in editor lol. The negative side however is sometimes she reads stuff and can only look at me and shake her head.

On the flip side - I occassionally draw on the English and grammar are part of a vibrant and evolutionary language card.
The ability to communicate with one another is just as important sometimes than the ability to point the finger (with the laid-back nature of blogs at least) - given throwing stones in glass houses so often comes back to haunt I've found.
I will admit though - it is important to have our kids understand the rules before they flaunt them.
Still . . . thanks for the heads up . . . or should that be head's up . . . or perhaps heads' up?
Cheers to you

I was up with the animal ones, but I didn't know that about Mary Shelley! I guess it figures.
And babies born with teeth! Poor mamas.
Good post! And very interesting addition Mrs M!

Something like George Washington was the first man in the US to have dentures - the obscure stuff.
Stay well.
