What's Your Favourite Quiz Show?
October 23rd 2007 22:02
From the outset - I have to declare a bias to this question - given my appearance on one earlier this year!
Prompted by Michaelie's great little post on the Sound of Music over at flickwit.net Really Long Link - I felt compelled to ask the question - What's Your Favourite Quiz Show - purely on the strength that a question about the said musical proved to be my undoing - much to the chagrin of family and friends.
Not that I wasn't pleased with the result on the night - but I guess in the wash-up I should've been a little more enthusiastic in my viewing of Julie Andrews and the whole von Trapp clan.
That said - perhaps you have a favourite game show?
Are you a Wheel Of Fortune person or maybe a Sale of The Century type?
Does Larry do it for you on The Price Is Right - or (going down history's corridor) was Bob Dyer and BP Pick a Box something you have fond memories of?
Was It's Academic or Jeopardy a winner in your household?
So I thought I'd spin the wheel - try my luck, and ask the question - 'What Is Your Favourite Quiz/Game Show' - remember - there's no right or wrong answers - just first in with the buzzer!

I loved Sale of the Century and Wheel of Fortune, but was much better at the latter than the former (just not quick enough, I'm afraid
Am loving Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader at the moment, though I wish they'd get some people on there with half a brain!

FIrst in with the buzzer. My kids watch Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader - my better judgement says - it's probably smarter not to
Thanks for dropping by.

It was a quiz show for secondary school students back in the early-mid 70's.
Three kids - one compare and around 8 categories to chooise from (ie: History, Anagrams, Roman Numerals, Geographry etc etc) - similar format to It's Academic - but pitting individuals against one another - not teams of kids.
Thanks for dropping by.

Now my faves are: Bob and Dolly Dyer, with Mr. Braniac Jones on BP Pick a Box, (remember when he corrected Bob's question/answer, Jonesy was a legend) Tommy Hanlon, "what's behind curtain 4", Video Village, (showing my age so far eh what?), Concentration, used to watch that when I was really ill with pneumonia, Tony Barber and The Great Temptation, and Saaaale of the Century...poor Tone, he should be brought back, he found out he had been shafted when he turned up to work and his huge photo portrait had been removed from the Channel 9 foyer, what a classy way to treat an institution like him, and I remember his last show, him shouting, "Where's the streamers??!!" The arseholes were too stingy to give him a streamer send off!! Of course, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, now mutli..and Deal...
Sorry...got a bit carried away, not like me...
cheers

Don't worry about showing your buddy. Tommy Hanlon Jr was a show stopper!
Coles $6000 question was pretty good too - for its time and of course BP Pick a Box.
Ah the days when you could name a program after its sponsor . . .
Always a pleasure old bean.

Sale of the Century/Temptation is a favourite. The questions aren't particularly hard...it's all about rapid recall. The ability to faster than immediately access 'files' in our ca-brain-ets.
I do like Jeopardy and wish we had a local version. And Michaelie hon, yes!! Why??
Big fan of 'Spicks and Specks'.
I once won a quiz...so okay it wasn't a national televised quiz...wasn't through any form of media... but I won and I was chuffed!
Guess what the topic was??

Dusk, I'm guessing you won a quiz about... hmmm... croquet? Hang-gliding? Racquetball?
Haha. Which reminds me that I won a Sex and the City trivia night!

I suspect you'd have the admiration and respect of your peers regardless of having triumphed in a quiz.
A Wallabies signed poster - nice get.

Thanks for stopping by.
Personally Wheel of Fortune doesn't do a lot for me - but given its longevity and global appeal - I guess that means I'm in the minority.
Nice of you to call in - hope to see you again soon.
Cheers

Hmmm - musta been pretty good. Didn't even get a chance to make it down here.
Then again - The Rich List has lasted an entire season in Oz - while apparently it last just two episodes in the US.
Go figure!
Long live the music.
