Whose Your Favourite TV Sidekick?
September 9th 2011 20:56
Jerry Seinfeld had George Costanza, Andy Griffith had Don Knotts, the Skipper had Gilligan and Kermit had Fozzy - all great TV sidekicks - all worthy of their place in the hearts and minds of small screen addicts everywhere.
But what of the multitude of others who have graced our screens?
Al Borland (Richard Karn) and Tim Taylor (TIm Allen) on Home Improvement, Sam Malone and Norm Peterson from Cheers, Burt Ward (Robin) and Adam West from Batman, Smithers and Burns, Rhoda and Mary, Kirk and Spock, Niles and Frasier, Earl and Randy . . . and on and on and on it goes.
The deep you delve - the more you unearth.
But who have been your favourite televsion sidekicks?
And what warrants being a sidekick?
Is Ethel (Vivian Vance) a sidekick to Lucy (Lucille Ball) or vice versa?
Are Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes) and Karen Walker (Megan Mullally) collective sidekicks on "Will & Grace."
Was the Fonz - just a foil for Ritchie or did Ralph Malph and Potsie fill the role for both characters?
And is Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) a sidekick to Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) on "How I Met Your Mother."
Too many questions - too many sidekicks - but you can never get enough humour!
