What's Been Your Favourite Soap Opera?
January 30th 2008 03:50
OK - so I'm not a fan of soap!
In fact - given how few of us freely admit to our television viewing sins - it's surprising that they make it at all.
But given the popularity of soaps around the world - I assume there must be a minute percentage out there that actually get into a lather over it.
Whether it's the now iconic Neighbours, Prisoner, Sons and Daughters or A Country Practice - you'd be hard pressed to not at least be aware of the impact they've had on today's popular culture.
Perhaps you were a fan of Number 96 or The Box, The Sullivan's or Cop Shop.
Were you a Heartbreak High fiend or E-Street groupie.
Or did the trials and tribulations of The Young and The Restless, East Enders, As the World Turns, General Hospital, or the legendary Days of our Lives do it for you?
Maybe even successful prime time serials of the 1980s Dallas, Dynasty and Knots Landing captured your heart and soul.
Whatever it was - fess up!
Would love to know who's responsible.

A Country Practice, Heartbreak High, EastEnders and E-Street. Have been known to watch these in the past or from time to time on pay TV.
But generally not a lover of the soap opera. I loathe most of them. Ever seen Passions? It's about the most ridiculous show ever aired.

I've always been a bit of a soapie fan even though I know they are usually ridiculous. My faves have been Melrose Place, EastEnders and Sons and Daughters (when I was too young to know better). I'll confess I was even a Bold and The Sweaty fan for a few years...eek.

PS I still watch EastEnders (thanks Foxtel).

Ya know - as far as completely tragic soaps are concerned you'd be hard pressed to outdo Young Doctors (featuring a young Mark Holden from memory) or Class of 74 and the students from . . . . wait for it . . . . Waratah High, in my opinion - but we're delving too far into the past now me thinks.
Thanks for the confessional.

Sons and Daughters . . . ouch!
My only fond memory of soaps is when Mrs NG used to watch A Country Practice when we were first married.
When the immediate heir to the MNG fortune was old enough to toddle - she would walk herself off knowing it was bed -time when the theme music started with teddy tucked under one arm.

Gentlemen - set phasers to stun. On my command fire at any hostile Soapy stars.
Scottie - prepare to beam us aboard.

Wow - Korean Soaps?
Are you kidding - would love to hear about them.
So much more exotic than Luke Perry and the 90210 brat pack.
Cheers

Your confession astonishes me.
Would not have pegged you for a Bold and the Beautiful or a Days of Our Lives type.
Still - we all have skeletons - huh?
Thanks for sharing.

...um...oh okay, I used to enjoy the Box and No 96... and that's about when I stopped switching TV on too, when mine blew up one day and I didn't replace it ... of course that was before I was married and had children, and a TV lovin' spouse..
