Best TV Theme Songs

The television theme song is a dying art.
Back in the 1960s, people like Sherwood Schwartz pioneered the theme song with classics such as Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch - where having never even seen the show you knew the exact pretext of the production.
After all, all you had to do was "sit right back and hear a tale..." and recoil in watching "story about a man named Brady."
They were the halycon days, when even the creepy and kooky Addams Family or equally inept Beverly Hillbillies got their own lyrics and not just a cursery ditty.
The 70s burst onto the scene and almost overnight - it was almost too hard to put pen to paper when it came to television themes.
Big budget, all singing all dancing shows such as Mod Squad led the charge - though there were exceptions which bucked the system.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Welcome Back Kotter were standouts.
The 80s came and went with a mish mash of themes ranging from Miami Vice through to Knight Rider - but once again the decade was salvaged by classics such as Cheers and even Thankyou for Being A Friend off the Golden Girls.
Today - the theme song is again looking a little tired and struggling to keep its head above water.
Friends and perhaps That 70s Show are standouts - but they're few and far between.
No doubt there's a multitude out there - so refresh my memory.

Or, all those Westerns, Have Gun will Travel, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, the Virginian all had great theme songs, instantly recognizable.
Lost in Space, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, all were great theme songs.
Star Trek wins. Totally. I sang it when I was 3 when it first came on. Hit all those high notes!!
