When I Grow Up . . . I Want To Be?
September 5th 2007 01:11
All I ever wanted to be when growing up - was famous.
Not rich necessarily - just famous!
Where this came from I'm still perplexed - but while other five-year-old's were touting life as policemen, firemen, pilots, truck drivers et al - I wanted the world to know me, to stop me in the street, ask me for my autograph and generally - just be noticed (for all the right reasons of course).
The psychologists would no doubt point to some deep seated problem with not having received enough attention from my parents in those formative years.
Some would say it was either an inferiority complex, over inflated ego or a combination of both (or neither).
Fact is - I still harbour the dream.
Sure I've moved on in my chosen career (if you can call it that) - and given I've actually been fortunate enough to have appeared on both morning radio and a national television program this year (well for an hour anyway) - finding fame is a tougher assignment than I thought.
Of course I could've been like the other kids and followed their dreams . . .
I wonder what young Russ Crowe, Mel Gibson and that little girl down the street - um Kylie - are doing now?

Or Wonder Woman.
...but I think I have a better chance at being an adult. I'm almost 40 so it should kick in soon. I hope.
MNG...'Temptation'?
I believe the Fame Flame is a conveyor belt filled with hopefuls. Once in a while...a chute opens underfoot and voila...I'd like to thank my make-up artist and you love me, you really love me...
If it's meant to be...it will be. So go forth and fame on Mr Nice Guy.
That's enough semi profundity from me now. but seriously...hope to see your name in lights some day...
What would you like to be famous for?

Nice try. But no - it wasn't Temptation. A great experience none-the-less - and damn I looked good
Sorry to dispell any misconception you may have but the whole 40 and growing up thing just doesn't happen - it's just that teens and 20-somethngs put you in the "old - but think they're still cool" category.
The shame . . .
I'll make sure to mention you when accepting that first Oscar.

I have absolutely no desire to be one now though. At least yours has stuck. I'm sure you'll get there some day and I can say I orble commented on your site once.
Though of course you'll have to use MNG as your stage name so I know it was you!

As my good friend Dusk so correctly points out -
Once in a while...a chute opens underfoot and voila...
If you've been led to blog - it's for a reason - and the fact you've such a strong following is surely a sign that the talent, enthusiasm and desire is there.
Get yourself out there champion - that chute will open!
Regards as always

In my previous life, pre-toddler, I was a media manager.
Now I'm a busy mum, and I'm working on a kid's book that's due to be published late next year.
