Skirts vs Shirts: Who's your Favourite Girl Band?
July 31st 2007 23:10
So hyperbole and puns aside (yes even the one’s about Boobie prizes) – who’s your favourite Girl Band of all time?
From the halcyon days of the Andrews Sisters, through to The Ronettes, The Supremes and the Shangri-Las in the 50 and 60’s to The Pointer Sisters, Bananarama, Wilson Phillips, The Spice Girls or Destiny’s Child – the contemporary sound of the All-Girl group has always (and will continue to have) a special niche in the musical hall of fame.
And while the high-production, harmony-heavy sound of girl groups was well-established in the 60’s and 70 – today’s esterogen fuelled groups (in production terms) swing widely from the wholly commecial (Bardot and Atomic Kitten) to trail blazing bands such as En Vogue.
For the oldies out there – sorry – Lesley Gore and Little Eva (despite what you might think) don’t really count – and as for Petula Clark well – session musos aren’t part of the judging criteria for this little post.
Sure throw in The Dixie Chicks, Joan Jett, The Shirelles – and at a pinch – The Corrs if you want (though their brother may have something to say about that).
Perhaps The Saints or the Sugarbabes is more to your taste – or the Go Go’s, Pussycat Dolls or The Bangles?
Whether its R and B, classic contemporary, disco-diva’s or just out and out raunch – Hit Me with Your Best Shot. . . .

Maybe I'm saying that because I talked about them in my blog today.
Subtle plug.
