What's the World's Most Over-rated Song?
March 21st 2008 23:48
With apologies to those (who grew up listening to the whaling Scottish rocker) Jimmy Barnes - I could never understand why so many rated Ka Sahn so highly.
I suspect the lemming mentality had something to do with it - if you weren't cool - it was an instant in . . .
"Yeah - Ka Sahn man - best song ever . . . ".
. . . you know what I mean!
Sure, record producers and commercial powerbrokers have something to do with our buying habits - they know which buttons to push, which strings to pull and which stations to influence to ensure their artist (and themselves) make a million before disposing of the poor sod and milking their next up and coming 'star'.
Pub bands - such as Midnight Oil and Australian Crawl managed to developed their own huge following - on the back of some pretty catchy and insightful tunes - before being enveloped by the masses - who will swear that 'they' were groupies right from the outset . . .
That aside - there are just some artists - but probably more relevant to the discussion - tunes which are simply horribly 'over-rated' - some I suggest we either would be happy to never hear again or at the very least put into a vault to pull out when only absolutely necessary - like when uninvited guests arrive.
So - in your own humble opinions - what is/are the world's most over-rated songs?

Ranks right up there for two fingers down the throat type songs.
Certainly a top ten on the cringeworthy list.
Cheers mate

My Apologetics
Didn't that get old fast?
Also
Danny Boy.
Carm-on Ossie Carm-on!
Mama Mia!
And anything but the cultural chewing gum masters called Gilbert and Sullivan.

Now I do LOVE Mariah Carey. Only her new stuff though, like "We belong together", but nothing earlier.

Mariah Carey huh?
Personally, if they put Whitney and Celine Dion in a lifeboat and set it adrift - my musical world wouldn't exactly be devoid of any misgivings.
Thanks for stopping by.

What is it with Mariah.
She seems to polarise so many.
She's laughing all the way to the bank of course . . .
Keep smilin'

A friend of ours soooo wanted to have this song at her wedding.
Thankfully - her husband (and several of her closer acquaintances) convinced her otherwise).
Yep . . . gotta be right up there!
Always a pleasure.

Moving Pictures moved me in so many ways with What About Me - mostly away from the radio when it hit the air.
As for Shannon - nice bloke - but marketing over substance.
Cheers

Given that Gaye, Lilla, Bookgirl, Tammy et al also agree - who out there actually buy there stuff - there must be a huge lonely hearts club out there with disposal income and sucker written across their forhead.
Cheers buddy
