Would you be your own best friend?
August 17th 2007 04:07
What a toughie!
Vanity and pride aside – I’d have to honestly say no!
Sure I’d get on with me – but I also probably start up an argument with myself which of course I would win.
Mind you – I’d probably end up house bound – given neither me or I would be able to decide where the we would go – then probably mull around because we weren’t doing anything.
A cocoon of thought would no doubt inhibit my adventurous side – but my advice – while sometimes staid – would serve me well.
I’d be keen to lend myself a hand when there’s work to be done – but would probably get on my own nerves when things weren’t ‘quite right’.
I’d get tired of hearing my own voice at times – but that could be tempered with my choice of music – which I think I’d enjoy.
And while I’d like to hang out with a more gregarious me – I’d have to find a quiet corner to park myself when I got too loud.
All in all – while I’d probably be a mate – I probably wouldn’t make it to the top of my own list.
Sure there’s a few ticks in the boxes – but there’s also a few crosses too.
Yep – it’s a toughie all right – perhaps I should ask the audience – or phone a friend.

I think so, but I think I'd be an annoying pushover without my own concrete opinions.....

well i would be my own best friend i guess, as long as we lived in different states. I think i only do well with long distance friendships. People annoy me when they want too much. I like my own space. Ilike online firends, pen pals and far away friends. Come visit me a bit, Then go home and give me back my little world here inside my home,on my farm. <soft smile>

Concrete is good. Makes for a solid character. Don't think you'd ever be a pushover.

Inflated ego? In the words of Skyhooks - Ego is not a dirty word.

Wouldn't that be great ... a best friend who has exactly the same taste in music, movies, TV, food etc etc etc.
Then again, it'd probably get a bit dull without the variety.
Would I be my own best friend? Probably not.
We'd be friends, but not best friends.

I worry about you sometimes.
Best I dismiss the thought from my mind.

"Brilliant musical taste - huh? Now that would make an interesting post - looking forward to viewing your Top 20."

Probably would be inclined to agree. Sometimes you can surprise yourself with your own company . . . just don't do it in public too often.

Can think of one or two to be honest - and yes in the words of Carly Simon "they are so vain".
Thanks for visiting the MNG speakeasy.

well this is indeed a "deep tort" and may even lead to mass action within the Law of Torts if there were two of everybody!
SO the question...
hmmm...well, yes and no...I have MANY admirable qualities, and then some aspects, like cleaning the kitchen scrupulously, yet too often retiring before scrubbing the floor...have black and white tiles there, a real pain, to keep pristine....
anyway, as I am often an indolent, procrastinating, and testy person; testy only when made to state the obvious or asked to comment upon some irrelevant inanity!
oh I could go on and on with faults....I look after my 85 year old mum, who is going deaf but hates to wear her hearing aids, so one has to repeat most comments four times while getting progressively louder and more annoyed in tone each time...then guilty if offence is taken....etc....
However, as a friend, I know they come no more loyal and steadfast than my good self.
As an entertaining presence 24/7.....NO WAY!!
cheers and ego fears

P.S I have to admit something; your avatar, our beloved "Maxwell", (whom we lost not so long ago), has such a strong affect upon my feeble frontal lobes, that every time I read your entries, I hear Maxwell's voice!! And it fits so well....I mean that in an encouraging and supportive way of course!! hehe!
P.P.S. Just had a thought, what about doing a post on people selecting their favourite TV character for political office, and why? Like who would you vote as PM of Oz and/or Britain and Prez of USA etc?
