Would You Change Your Name?
October 19th 2007 20:35
A friend of mine recently contemplated changing their name - for a week at least - in aid of charity.
Yeah - a good reason I hear you say - the downside of course is that they had to put themselves up for auction - with the highest bidder getting to choose the person's moniker.
In the end - she decided the potential risk and hassle it caused probably wasn't worth it - particularly given the winning bidder plumped for "Ima Goose".
Hardly inspiring, risque or for that matter - anything imaginative really - but for all intents and purposes - the poor sap who did change their name for the week by deed poll - was obliged to introduce themselves at a number of functions (organised by the charity group) by way of "Hello - Ima Goose".
The whole exercise got me thinking about my own name - and the number of times people would come up to me and say - 'ya know - you really look like a Michael or Craig" - or a Bjorn for that matter.
In fact (a true story) a colleague of mine had to convince his young expectant wife that despite her childhood dream to name their firstborn Heidi - would not exactly work well with her newly acquired surname - Hole!
So are you in love with your own name - are you genuinely attached to it - or have you secretly harboured a desire to change it at some time?
Love to hear from you.

I was supposed to be born around Thanksgiving but I had other ideas. I was born instead around Christmas. My parents named me a "festive" holiday name. My dad says to this day if I had been born around Thanksgiving my name would have been "turkey". He thinks that story is quite a knee slapper! My name means a lot to my parents so my answer is no.

I've always wanted to meet a Justin Case. I know a Roxanne Rolls. Jerry should have married Bryan...
As for me...I was born at dusk and shall remain thus.
My (late) father named me.
So...no, never, not just because my father named me but because I truly feel like I am by name and nature.
It's my second name that's a bit hard to live up to!
Hope you all had a great day MNG... luverly day today...

At least your parents didn't have to contend with you being born around Halloween - now that could've been scary!
Always a pleasure to have you stop by.

Your dad must've been one very special man.
Mrs NG is recouperating and good in herself. A long way to go - we just take things one day at a time.
Thanks

A friend of my eldest daughter (who is of Asian parents) changed her name recently from Ling Wau to a more anglo-celtic moniker - which I thought was a real shame.
Thanks (as always) for stopping by.

Given your literary genius Really Long Link I would be seriously thinking a pen name at least.
